Apex, however, has had limited time solo modes in the past, despite constant calling from the community to make that a real feature. Warzone did what Apex could never added a permanent solos mode after just one week of the game's launch. Adding abilities (and even adding Legends more frequently) or merely balancing them on a more regular basis would switch up stale gameplay. Gibraltar is still OP, and Crypto and Octane’s popularity died off quickly. The meta also relates to team combo loadouts, certain Legends are used significantly more than others ( Wraith, Pathfinder) because the balancing issues are obscene. The Alternator and RE-45 get no love now Disruptor rounds are gone, and the Longbow seems pointless without a Skullpiercer. Taking away and adding hop-ups to the guns certainly seems like a way to grab players’ attention but removing them from the game sees the weapons usage rate affected dramatically. We, for one, are a little sick of being obliterated by half a clip from an R-99…

APEX VS FREE
In terms of sheer variety, Epic's shooter phenomenon is hard to top.įortunately, both of these games are completely free to play, so there's no reason not to hop into both and see which is best for you. It's available on every platform imaginable, has an inviting, kid-friendly style, and has a ton of different ways to play for both solo and team-minded players. That said, Fortnite is still the biggest game out there for a reason.

If you want a refreshing battle royale that puts a major emphasis on teamwork, you'll find lots to like about it. It's team-based, hero-based gameplay makes it unlike any battle royale shooter out there, and its fast, smooth movement will strike a chord with fans of Respawn's previous games. In just a few short days, Apex Legends has already positioned itself as a legitimate contender to Fortnite's throne. But odds are, if you think your kid is old enough to play a game where they shoot realistic guns, they’re old enough for either Fortnite or Apex.
APEX VS FULL
It’s not as kid friendly as Fortnite, which is full of cartoon llama pinatas and silly dances, so parents should still do a little research and watch some videos before they give the OK to younger players. Characters have cool and odd looking unlockable costumes, unlockable taunts and finishing moves to help keep things fun. If drab military shooters are a turn-off for you, and if you liked the cartoony world of Fortnite, Apex Legends does a good job of keeping things light. The squad requirement is also integrated into the opening airdrop segment by randomly picking someone as a “jumpmaster” to guide the squad to a single landing spot with the other two members automatically following. Players cannot double-up on a single character class, further encouraging a sense of team cooperation.

This is meant to go hand-in-hand with the hero shooter design and to get players to use their unique character abilities to help each other out. Your choice ultimately comes down to how much you like the twitch reflexes needed to place defensive walls and ramps in Fortnite, or how much you like the hero shooter formula and the focus on team composition.Ī big departure from Fortnite and other battle royales is Apex’s requirement of three-person squads in every match. The building mechanics are very unique to Fortnite, even outside of battle royale games, but the hero shooter concept may be more familiar to fans of competitive shooters.
